Digital invoicing platforms help small businesses create and send professional invoices, accept electronic payments, automate reminders, and track accounts receivable. All the providers listed below also offer embedded payment options, allowing customers to pay by card or direct bank debit (electronic check) from an invoice, payment link, or customer portal.

Unlike other fintech areas filled with newer startups, six of the 11 invoicing providers are at least 15 years old. And the youngest launched in 2018.

Year founded: 2000 to 2010 >>> 6   |   2011 to 2015 >>> 2   |   2016 to 2020 >>> 3   |   2021 or later >>> 0

We divided the payment providers into five categories:

  1. Invoice management providers (below)
  2. Charge card & expense management (see list here)
  3. Bill payments specialists (here)
  4. Payment processors (here)
  5. Subscription management platforms (here)

***As nerds do, we are developing a proprietary score measuring the adoption of digital financial services at private companies that do not release traditional metrics (# customers, deposits, AUM, etc). We call it the FAB score, standing for Fintech Attention Barometer. The score uses money raised, valuation and website traffic as a proxy for company size and velocity of growth. It’s a work in progress, so expect changes down the road.

Disclosure: We may receive referrals from company's listed. If it changes their ranking, we indicate that with an “*”
